Jocelyn's ABC: Alphabet Broadway Cabaret

About the Show

Musical theater dynamo Jocelyn Duford presented her Alphabet Broadway Cabaret, with one musical theater song for each letter of the alphabet, for one night only at the Medallion Opera House on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. This concert s sponsored in part by Gorham businesses the Market Place at 101 and Gorham House Florist.

The solo performance includes music from well-known shows like Peter Pan, Gypsy and Nine as well as lesser-known gems, from the jazzy See What I Wanna See to shows as varied as She Loves Me, Little Me, Bring It On and The Goodbye Girl. Jocelyn will be accompanied by pianist Jamie Feinberg of Franconia.

The hilarious Duford’s powerhouse voice and personality is thoroughly showcased through a dynamic range of selections in this 90-minute tour through the alphabet (yes, there is a song for letter X too!). With the help of some simple props and costumes, she plays everything from the perpetually engaged Adelaide of Guys and Dolls to a cranky, jaded third grade teacher from Ruthless! to an evil but adorable cheerleader from Bring It On and the iconic stage mother Rose of Gypsy.

Please note that this show is recommended for ages 12 & up. (There are a few songs with some adult language.)

Tuesday, May 5, 7 p.m. at the Medallion Opera House, 20 Park St., Gorham, NH

About the Artist

Jocelyn was born, raised, and currently resides in southern New Hampshire. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theater from Dartmouth College in 2010 and has been performing throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts as an actress and vocalist since graduation. She has been a featured vocalist in the concert series Something Wonderful I Missed with Not Your Mom's Musical Theater for the past three years and has starred in many of their productions. Jocelyn is currently performing in Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, and this summer will be a member of the IMPACT Children's Theatre Company at Jean's Playhouse in Lincoln, NH, using her talents in voice, improv, comedy, and movement to help create a new musical twist on some classic tales for kids. When Jocelyn isn’t performing in musical theater, she works as a Mad Scientist, touring New England leading classes, performances and camps that teach science to children.

Jocelyn has been described as a “comedic stand-out” with the best “facial expressions and the pipes to boot” by the Nashua Telegraph. On her dramatic work as the lead in a recent production, performer Andrew Pinard described her as the highlight of the performance. He went on to say that “her transformation from young girl to elderly woman was subtle, nuanced and totally convincing. When she sang however, she just gutted me."

Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater is in its fifth year bringing high-quality, lesser-performed musical theater to New Hampshire audiences. The troupe has presented New Hampshire and New England premieres of both Broadway and off-Broadway musicals, and they’ve performed their touring concerts and musicals around New England and in Montreal.
